Hero Bio:
Louis M. Ceresola, son of Domenico and Caterina Ceresola, of Wadsworth, Nevada, was born in Dayton, Lyon County, Nevada, April 6, 1893. Later the family moved to Wadsworth in Washoe County, and Louis was living there at the time he answered the call to the Colors (November 3, 1917). His record shows service in the 166th Depot Brigade, Camp Lewis, Washington, to November 10, 1917; in Headquarters Company, 164th Infantry, 41st Division, to October 17, 918, and his transfer to Company B, 116th Supply Train, same division. He went overseas in December, 1917, and was made Private, First Class, April 1, 1918. Later he was transferred to Company K, Medical Labor Camp, Grievres, France.
Nothing definite is known as to how the young soldier lost his life, but it is supposed by army officers that he was set upon by persons unknown some time on the 16th of August, 1919, and was struck down and robbed by the criminals. His body was discovered by a French civilian in a wood about four kilometers from St. Aignan on September 3d. Nothing was left with him but his good conduct passes, the last of which bore the date “August 16, 1919.” Everything seems to show that the cowardly blow was struck for the purpose of robbery.
Friends of the lost soldier joined in the grief of the parents when news of the tragedy was received. He had been a boy of great integrity, high morals and strong personality which made him esteemed by young and old. His even disposition and kindly temperament will long be remembered by all who knew him. Besides his parents, two brothers, and a half-brother, William J. and Julius A. Ceresola and Marco P. Depaoli, all of Wadsworth, and three sisters, Mrs. P. J. Capurro, 1844 Powell Street, San Francisco, California, Mrs. J. J. Feretto and Miss Vienna Ceresola, of Wadsworth, survived him. His name is on the Roll of Honor of the boys from Washoe County.
